Title: Re: Novus 2.0 tidbits -- Classes

And now time to talk about Classes....

In the current Novus classes were more along the lines of starting packages than anything found in some other games. This idea has been refined even further, and what used to be called Classes are now called Training Paths.

This name designates the initial direction in which the character's training was focused. And it allows for future development to either refine or diverge from that initial focus based on events that the character goes through.

The Training Paths are currently divided into 4 "Classes" which basically means 4 focal designations. We have the following:

[/li]
[li]Fighters -- These are characters who focus on combat related skills
[/li]
[li]Rogues -- These are characters are are primarily skill based, but not in the same manner as the other two Classes. I may rename this Class to "Skilled" since Rogues are often considered a type of thief-like character
[/li]
[li]Mixed -- This class contains everything else, especially those that mix two or more of the above Classes. It includes what my Rolemaster roots would term as semi-spellcasters since the focus on both casting and a specific set of skills both. It also includes any Training Paths that do not fit neatly into one of the above 3 Classes.
[/li]

Sounds interesting. Will there be a conversion system for players in the old Novus to the new Novus?

Conversion should be relatively straight forward. The core 8 stats are the same (even though one has been renamed), and IIRC, there have not been many, if any, changes to the skills themselves.

The largest Changes are removal of levels, and the changing of the Secondary Stats/Saves to use 2 stats in combination.

So your 5th level Fighter, would pretty much work out to be 160 XP Fighter.

And truthfully, many of the new concepts in Novus 2.0 have already been released in the Libram Novus issues....  (such as the reworking of combat styles).

Novus has always been very modular.  I know as someone writing and posting stuff for it that is one of it's strengths.  The Librams were always great for seeing how easy it was to customize the system.

Hi Tim,

Do you have an estimated time frame when either the final game or any playtest material will be available?  I will start a new campaign soon so it would be good to try Novus 2.0.

Welcome to the forums!

At the moment, not yet.

2.0 is actually close to having a beta release, once I figure out what should be in the core of the rules.

Thank you!  I look forward to seeing all the new rules.
