Quick Start

Ok, I had created a topic regarding thison the first forum I had set up the other day, before I found this one and discovered I could import the old SMF forums into it (recovering all those previous posts! Yay!!!!).

Witchking20k posted a file to that thread and if I had been smart, I would have downloaded it so that I could attach it over here.

But the basic idea here is to create 4-6 characters (possibly more), and then have a short, simple adventure for those characters to play through as a way of showing off the system.

There would be a small overview of the basic rules, and then in the text of the Adventure, we would use breakout boxes for any rules specific to a given situation/challenge in the adventure.

For example, the Adventurers come upon a locked door. There would be a breakout box for how to check for traps and one for picking the lock (maybe one for simply busting it open, since abilities will be based on the characters used), as well as for resolving the trap, in case it is set off and not disarmed....)

Re-Post of the original document. The encounters do use a similar format to what you are looking for:

1. THE ENTRANCE
The entrance to the Goblin hideout is a crack in the side
of a rocky hill, partially concealed behind a thick, thorny
bush. Lurking in the shadow between the bush (G) and
the hill a single goblin keeps a sleepy vigil. PCs can
discover goblin guard with a successful Perception vs.
TN18 roll. Sneaking up on the sleepy goblin in daylight
will require a successful Stealth vs. TN15 roll. [GM NOTE:
If you want the goblin to be more alert you can use the
Opposed Rolls option on page 85 of the Novus Full Rules.]

But, I could reformat to 1 column with a margin for GM walkthrough?

Promising to be a stormy weekend my way - I'll see if I can start expanding on this adventure.

So, I think what i am going to do is try and re-write the 1st encounter at the cave mouth to see if I can get the hang of what you are looking for. That way I don't do too much.

That's a smart approach. Maybe we may add excerpts from this into the core rules to show how things work.

That would require having the quick start done before releasing the public version of the rules.

but I am planning on releasing a public version of the beta, so such could not be in that, but would need to be added before final release....

I think completing the beta makes more sense. For example, I worked on expanding the 1st Encounter this morning. I need to know what Perception vs. Stealth etc works like....can't do that without the v15 rules.

I wonder if basically we wait until the beta is ready - then use it to insert the rules, and also use the rules to insert specific encounters to make sure we have an example of each type of roll in the module. I'm generally pretty good at forcing PCs to use a lot of non-combat skills. But, it's more difficult without knowing all of the rolls etc.

I think you'd have to wait for the v15 beta as it appears there are quite a lot of changes.

Here is the expanded re-write of the 1st encounter. Incomplete. But, still gives an idea of what I am doing.

Finished the loos draft of encounter 1. Updated the PDF. Included an area snapshot from the Anwyn map and some suggestions.
