I have recently started working on creating a map for Hyb Rasil.

I decided to use the map that Fred Lipari made for Tyrlon as my inspiration and basis for it. I flipped and rotated it, so that it is facing the direction  and orientation that I needed for Hyb Rasil.

Now, I may still make more changes to it, but here at least are the first images....... In fact, I do need to make some more changes to the city itself, so that I can include a keep for the rulers.

The one image even includes the underlining trace image that I am using as well.

ok, so here are this week's maps of Hyb Rasil....


I have added some color, and made the river wider before the city. Since it narrows to go through what amounts to a gorge, it travels rapidly through the city itself

As you can see from the second image, I am trying to stay close to the trace image I am using. But not to the point that things are avoided just because they do not match...

So, anybody have any comments on the maps for Hyb Rasil yet?


Here is the next set of WIP (Work in Progress) maps

As always, one shows the map without the trace image and one with, so you can get a sense of my starting point and how things are progressing. Things will start looking better once I start coloring in the ground (which I won't do until I have placed all my building assets.

Sidenote: The smallest ships (the ones without sails) are kinda like tug boats, to guide ships to and from the docks (they use magical propulsion)

Here are the next versions of the map...

The one with the overlay (which was originally made for Tyrlon about 10 years ago) is what I am using as a general guide for where I want my streets and such. I am not adhering to it 100%, but it is giving me my general layout.

Congrats Tim for this huge realization.
It reminds me of the excellent Thieves of Tharbad MERP module.
What would be awesome I think is to add main arteries names. Don’t know whether it is possible or not. An alphanumerical grid would help navigate the city too.

letters and numbers for the grid is doable, I did it for the Anwyn map, and the same for major street names (which I did on  Hyb Ciuin map).

I just need to come up with them first....

the only thing I have named within the city so far is King's Island (the island with the fortress and forest on it)

That map has  lot of work on it, congrats on doing such a job!
