A new Starting point in Tyrlon?
« on: March 12, 2019, 11:50:44 AM »
I just had a thought after digging out the Tyrlon Map.

everything else would remain the same (the locations of the 3 nations, and the races already on Tyrlon, etc....

But why leave things so close to home.

So, instead of Gateway being just outside the mountains, they built a new town over on the main portion of the island, where a rivers comes out to the bay between the main island and the peninsula.

And the following map would be out starting town, a place where all sorts hangout when not out adventuring...

The Red dot on the Tyrlon map marks the location

And here is the starting town

As you can see, everything is within the walls, and there is also a wall that goes over the river, with grating in it to allow the water to flow, but to also keep larger animals out.

You have the keep up on the hill. The building on the outside wall of the keep is the barracks. And there is an ostler near one gate, and the other enclosure if for other types of animals (i.e. cows and such), with the commons near that side being for them to graze (it helps having Druids on payroll to help grow fodder and such, plus warehouses which hold goods and items shipped from the main port over on Tyrlon.

Heh! They didn't even have to build the walls, only repair them, as they found them when exploring, and repaired/rebuilt the walls, and then the city interior to bring it back to usable condition.

The thing to remember with Tyrlon, is that you could find ruins almost anywhere, and they could have come from almost any world as well.

This was actually a Map in an art pack I recently purchased. I made a few alterations to it (i.e. moved the wall on one side of the river, so that it encompassed everything, and then added a bunch of smaller buildings )

I may rework the buildings a bit inside, and then  I will use a detail scheme like Harn uses, where the buildings get numbered, and then we would have description entries like this

26. THE FIVE PENNIES (Pethis of Ajarsen)
Size: 6 Quality: ***** Prices: high +
Freemaster ostler Leben of Ajarsen (a cousin) •
Pethis caters to the "elite". His clientele are
guildsmen and a few nobles, those wishing to sample
the fine and expensive wines of Lythia.

27. THE GREEN SAL TIRE (Tabela of Osyn)
Size: 8 Quality: **** Prices: high
Freemaster ostler Eobis of Kudelasor. Tabela is a
woman of considerable charm and intellect who caters
to Aleath's wealthier citizens.

28. THE FOX AND GLOVE (Ferin of Wythias)
Size: 4 Quality: *** Prices: average
Patronised by merchants, soldiers from the garrison
and city bureaucrats. Mercenaries in search of
employment also come here.

29. THE SILVER CAVERN (Saba thine of Alendiles)
Size: 4 Quality: ** Prices: low
Sabathine's patrons call her "the mole" because of
her disfigured, claw-like hands, long nose and
shortsightedness. She caters mainly to the urban
poor (scum) and her tavern is a favourite haunt for
members of the Lia-Kavair.

30. PORGINS' INN (Alaga of Porgin)
Size: 3 Quality: ** Prices: average
Alaga maltreats his two apprentices who are
understandably sullen.

31. HIDEWORKER (Lodin of lbyn)
Size: 7 Quality: **** Prices: high
Lodin's tannery is at [3la), managed by his son.

32. EMBALMER (Jarlag of Dyra)
Size: 2 Quality: *** Prices: average
Jarlag is of Orbaalese extraction and is an almost
pathologically dour man.

33. TOYMAKER (Mykael of Kandis)
Size: 4 Quality: ***** Prices: high
Mykael has uncanny skill at making unusual
mechanical toys. His creations are exported all over
Harn to be enjoyed by the children of the wealthy .

34. METALSMITH (Geriya of Choan)
Size: 3 Quality: *** Prices: average

35. WOODCRAFTER (Rusan of Habar)
Size: 3 Quality: **** Prices: average
