I have been toying with an idea recently.....
I have been thinking about setting up a wiki for Novus Rules. On this wiki, we would have the core rules setup and done in such a fashion that they would remain core (marked specifically as such). But this wiki would also allow for gamers to post their own creations as well. Including rules, spells, Talents, new monsters, etc...
There would be some guidelines - about not posting anything that belongs to somebody else (i.e. you couldn't create Warforged for Novus and post them. You could, however, post something inspired by them, but built from scratch). Anything posted would also likely require having its copyright implicitly transferred to Firehawk Games (multiple reasons for this, but primarily, doing so allows for its posting and for others to update things accordingly....)
What do you guys think of this idea???
-
That would be great and complementary with the forums.
-
Could be a good way to get traffic to the website and your online store
-
I was thinking more along the lines of a repository from which GMs (and potential Novus authors) could draw from for whatever projects they are working on.
-
Okay, have taken the first steps towards setting up a wiki for Novus.... it will take a bit to get it up and running, but we can then move on from that point.
-
Okay, if you like, you can visit http://novuswiki.firehawkgames.biz/index.php to see kinda what I am going for (only 3 races actually have info in them -- been working on trying to get it to display like I want...
Basically, I have a Novus namespace, and all official stuff will go into that namespace, and can then be transcluded into the main sections accordingly..
-
That is a very good start. Congratulations Tim!
-
I am working on getting the basic structure setup now...
The way it currently sits, nobody can edit anything but me (you cannot even create an account (I am hoping to later tie it into the forum Member DB here, but that is still to come)).
-
Okay, take a look now.... I have a lot of the basic structure in place (if not much content).
And it will contain things from the Libram Novus issues as well -- so long as they fit within the specific categories given.
-
Nice- its another info source for existing or potential customers..
-
True, but it won't contain the entirety of the rules or anything close....
It is specifically a repository of "objects"...
The idea being that if, say you, were to create a new race and released it in a product, you would be required to put, at the very minimum, a genericized version (i.e. not specifically tied to a setting's history), on the wiki, so that other authors could use it (and of course GM's could raid the site for their games as well, and the same for players....
Before I get too far along, I also need to come up with a "advertisement" snippet, that would go on each page as well (i.e. a link to the product that the object came from, so that folks looking at it would be able to click and go purchase if they like what they see...
-
If you have an example maybewe can help- I like writing (http:///wink.gif)
-
Example of what? The add thingy? We did something like that for the Cyradon wiki we did before Mjolnir lost the license, so I know it can be done..
-
Yes- the ad thingy
-
http://novuswiki.firehawkgames.biz/index.php?title=Frenzy how does this look? It is my first attempt (and it also means that I will need to set up an ad for each Libram Novus as well), and then go through ALL the pages I currently have setup to add this stuff in...
-
in fact, go to the Races link on the left and check out ALL of the races.....
let me know what you think
-
Right. I get it. Descriptive material but no bones. I think I clicked on Half-Elves originally and they didn't work...but, I see what you are trying to accomplish
-
Yeah, MOST of the pages there have only links to what will be the pages that contain the information that will be posted (the specific official data is in a separate namespace, so I use transclusions to bring it into an area where others can play with it....
Those front facing pages will be editable (allowing for folks to add things), but the core material will not be (that being the end result I wanted)
And then I can create specific namespaces for authors as well, so that way they can protect their content, but so that if can also be added to....
-
So, like a trooper, I was simply googling Novus Wiki and came up with a completely different site....hence my confusion.
-
Yeah, well it hasn't been up long enough, google likely hasn't crawled it yet...
-
Okay, here is the link to the wiki again....
http://novuswiki.firehawkgames.biz/index.php?title=Main_Page
I have the majority of the formatting figured out (though not fully applied to the pages I have already created).
I have also started filling in some content...
I have about half the races done, and all of the Backgrounds are in there already
Take a peek and let me know what you think...
-
Great work Tim. I think that could become a useful tool for GM. If you need a bit of information you can perform a real fast research using that wiki.
You may have a problem with the equipment page though. Most of the entries there are in an foreign (alien?) language.
-
You mean the things like Adwold, Aethe, and such? Those are names of Herbs from Libram Novus 5....
There is LOTS and LOTS of equipement to add still. I mostly only added one or two pages per sub-category on the equipment to get the structure in place and ready for putting in the definitions and such...
-
I guess I missed those herb names... (http:///tongue.gif)
-
I love the Wiki. This will be an awesome resource and a quick way to look things up. Thank you for this!
-
Glad that you like it. I am still working on filling everything in and on tweaking the templates and such...
I have all of the Races and Kindred Talents done, and am working on the other talents now...
I am still trying to find a SMF auth bridge that would allow for me designate one or two member groups with rights for editing certain things in some fashion..
The end goal is that visitors will be able to edit certain portions of the wiki (thing in the "main" name space, while others would have rights to edit specific portions (such as I have rights to edit the "Novus" and "ln" (i.e. Libram Novus) namespaces. And other companies/authors would be able to edit their own namespaces, which would allow for them to post any new material that they created, making it available for future authors to work from and build upon.
-
Update: All of the Classes are input, and all of the Talents from he core Novus book. I am still working on inputting the Talents from Libram Novus #3, but am at least half way don with those (I am up to the talents that start with "L" now).
Next up will be the skill descriptions, and then perhaps the spells (that will take a while!!! If anybody wants to volunteer to be a Minion and help, let me know...)
-
Okay, all of the talents are done, and I am starting on the skills next
-
Been a while since I worked on the Rules Wiki, so this morning, I added the Dragons to the wiki.... (need to work on this more often to get it finished and give it its own special place in the site menu...)
-
Okay, all monsters have been imported into the Wiki (including the ones from LN7)
-
instead of listing every single item of equipment individually, I have decided just to make pages for each category of equipment -- so those are complete as well..
-
That's a real cool product and a useful tool!
