Express Addtions #9 Released!   February 22, 2026     02/22/2026   Open Full Page

Welcome to the ninth issue of Express Additions. As always, our primary goal here is to expand the core rules of Fantasy Express with options and/or additional material that we could not fit into the core rules, or that we did not think of before publishing the core rules.

This issue is dedicated to replacing the whole combat system found in Fantasy Express, to be one more like that found in Against the Darkmaster, one of the primary sources of inspiration for Fantasy Express. This includes both attack and critical tables. This option works them into how the system works with Success Levels, and allows for utilizing the Combat Boons as well.

This also includes a number of other changes throughout the system to make this option work. This includes changes to some of the Special Skills, Background Gifts and Disadvantages, Armor, Weapons, spells, to the creatures in Bestiary, and to some of the magical items in the Treasure chapter. Each is detailed throughout this PDF.

I hope you enjoy these changes!

Express Additions #8 Released!   January 3, 2026     01/03/2026   Open Full Page

Welcome to the eighth issue of Express Additions. As always, our primary goal here is to expand the core rules of Fantasy Express with options and/or additional material that we could not fit into the core rules, or that we did not think of before publishing the core rules.

We have filled this issue with a number of different optional rules. Many of these rules options were originally presented in Novus or Novus 2e, and we have converted them over to Fantasy Express.

We start off with Encumbrance rules, and follow that up with some expansion options for the core FEAT table. We then provide GMs who want some guidance on encounters with an Encounter Types table.

This is followed with a conversion of Action Points, and then some alternative casting methods for spells referred to as Spell Drain.

Next, we present you with an alternative resolution table we have named Irregular Resolutions, followed by an option that allows for Quasi-Vancian Spellcasting.

We finish off the issue with some additional Combat Moves and Combat Styles that expand what we provided in Express Additions #5.

Shadow Companion II released!   November 4, 2025     11/04/2025   Open Full Page

IMPORTANT: This product presumes that you already have Shadow Companion, as that product lays the groundwork for much of what is included in this product!

The Shadow Companion II brings together  a lot of material that was not included in the Shadow Companion. This includes material from a couple of PDFs released under the Open00 license as well as lots  of new material converted from the Express Additions PDF written for Fantasy Express.

  • New Kins: We include all of the Kins from the Races of Anwyn PDF, including Kindred Backgrounds, and heights  and weights in metric for this product.

  • New Cultures: We include 25 Cultures in this product. Some are my takes on Cultures from the core rules, and others are from Fantasy Express.

  • Irregular Cultures: The same  25 Cultures, but they represent only half of the end Culture,  the  other half comes from a Training Package.

  • Training Packages: We provide you with 50+ Training Packages. These can be used as part of Irregular Culture, or purchased on their own as  part of  your initial development!

  • Vocational Kits: We provide you with 15 new Vocational Kits. Combined with the 32 Vocational Kits from Shadow Companion, this gives you a potential 1,128 Vocational Combinations in total!

  • New Specialty Skills: We provide 7 more Specialty Skills that characters may learn.

  • New Backgrounds: We include a few new Backgrounds as well, some are for use with new Vocational Kits, and others for use  with the  new Kins.

  • New Milestones: New Milestones, many for use with the new Vocational Kits, and the Combat Styles.

  • 2 New Schools of Magic: We bring the total number of Schools up to  10  with Astrology and Umbramancy.

  • The Arcanum: Bordering all 10 Schools is the Arcanum, it connects all of the Schools. Universal Spells would be  considered as Low Arcanum, and the new Collegium Spells would be considered the High Arcanum.

  • Combat Moves & Combat Styles: These build upon what is already in the core rules and help make non-spell-users more unique overall! The 21 new Styles give access to specific Advanced Combat Moves, which make every Style unique!

  • Money: We provide a coinage system that allows for expanding from the more abstract Wealth Level system, and provide many more items that players may want to purchase.

  • Encumbrance: We provide simple, but detailed rules for Encumbrance to go along with all the new equipment detailed in this product.

  • Herbalism: We reprint the  contents of the Herbalism PDF to  allow anybody to find and use magical herbs.

Anwyn, The Sundered Isle - Setting Primer Released!   September 29, 2025     09/29/2025   Open Full Page

Welcome to the world of Anwyn, The Sundered Isle!

Anwyn is a land where there are many paths to adventure! The peoples of Anwyn have only recently colonized it, and still haven't fully explored their new world. There are seven distinct regions for players to explore and adventure in!

  • Tir Tuath: The Land of the People  is the home to seven different nations of peoples and the haunted Barrowlands.

  • Tir Caledi: The  Land of Hardships is often buffeted by severe storms and subject to invasion from the Highlands.

  • Tir Hoige: The Land of Youth is home to the majority of the Elven peoples on Anwyn. They must also deal with the Fey of both the Seelie and Unseelie Courts from the  Faerie Mountains.

  • Esker Archia: The Henge Plains of the Esker Highlands contains thousands of portals to other worlds that activate randomly, often bringing monsters of many types to Anwyn.

  • Tir Pherygl: The Land of Jeopardy is so named  because of the many  large reptilian creatures that wander the lowlands of the northern shores of Anwyn.

  • Tuist Rhion: The Star Crater is the site where a magically charged meteorite struck Anwyn, sundering it from its home world. Are you brave enough to chance the Wild  Magic Flares to seek riches here?

  • Ilthach: The perpetually overcast Haunted Steppes are filled with places of the dead that appear and disappear randomly, not always taking their undead inhabitants with them.

Express Additions #7 Released!   August 24, 2025     08/24/2025   Open Full Page

Welcome to the seventh issue of Express Additions. As always, our primary goal here is to expand the core rules of Fantasy Express with options and/or additional material that we could not fit into the core rules, or that we did not think of before publishing the core rules.

We are starting this issue off with two options that expand how Combat Skills are handled. One breaks the 5 skills down into 24 separate skills, and the other uses a Specialties system with the original skills.

Next up, we have decided to provide a simplified Armor Rating system that provides a single Armor Rating instead of the more detailed/complicated version in the core rules. We provide a new Armor table with the new ARs. We then take this concept and present all new Bestiary tables with the new Simplified AR rules. To these tables, we also add in a column for the Combat Value from Express Additions #6 and we also include a new descriptive element for creatures called Nature, which will give GMs some basic guidelines on how the different creatures will react.

Next up, we present a new option called Aiming Zones, which allows for a chance of hitting a specific body part.

We follow this with a few new Items of Power (originally introduced in Express Additions #1).

And we end the issue with the introduction of a few new weapons for your fighter types to play with.

Critters #03 - Now Available!   June 8, 2025     06/08/2025   Open Full Page

Every game needs creatures and beasts for the adventures to test themselves against. In this product, the second of this series, we produce just that. A plethora of animals and creatures that you, as Game Master (GM), can throw against your player's characters to either hunt or be hunted by.

The information provided in this work is designed specifically, and unofficially, to be used with Against the Darkmaster, but it can also be used with many other fantasy role-playing systems. The material presented in Critters is meant to aid a GM in running their game.

The contents of this product are not endorsed by, nor should they be considered official in any capacity. They are, however, released under the Open00 license.

As a GM, you should always consider how a particular creature fits into you world system. If such a creature is inappropriate, you should feel free not to use it and/or use another in its place.
